Comey has maintained his clean record regarding the charges

Previous FBI head James Comey has denied the charges to providing misleading information to congressional representatives and hindering a legislative process.

His legal representative submitted the answer acting as his counsel in a US district court in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday.

His attorney announced he would attempt to have the case thrown out for several causes including that his client, a critic of Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was indicted soon after Donald Trump pressured his top legal official to take action against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald advised the court they planned to file multiple motions to dismiss the case before a court case, stating the government's case was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was improperly designated to handle the proceedings.

Mr Comey's legal matter was originally overseen by the original attorney, who stepped down under influence from Donald Trump after his probe into an additional rival - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Courtroom Atmosphere

The former director appeared in good spirits as he walked into the courtroom on Wednesday, speaking with his legal team and sharing humor. He was supported by his partner, Mrs Failor and offspring Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the Trump administration terminated.

After listening to the magistrate state his rights and the dual charges against him in the courtroom on mid-week, the defendant was asked if he comprehended the accusations.

"Yes your honour. Thank you," he told the judge.

Previous Events

The former director was the FBI Director from four years and was fired about a few months into Trump's initial presidency as president. At the moment, the director was leading an probe into Russian election interference and whether there were any connections between the Russian government and the presidential campaign.

Throughout his leadership, James Comey sparked a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just shortly prior to the 2016 election that he was probing presidential nominee Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against the candidate were never brought, resulting in criticism from Republicans as well.

Present Charges

The federal government allege Mr Comey lied to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They allege he deceived the upper house by stating he had not approved an individual at the FBI to disclose to news outlets data about the agency probes.

Government lawyers also accuse Mr Comey of "corruptly endeavoring to influence, block and slow" the committee by providing untrue information to it.

Personal Comments

Through a recording James Comey published to his Instagram after he was indicted, he declared he was wrongly accused and charged the former president of acting like a "autocrat".

"My family and I have known for a long time that there are consequences to opposing Mr Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I am not guilty," he stated further. "So let's have a court case."

The accusations against Mr Comey surfaced after Trump posted on digital channels insisting on his chief prosecutor, Ms Bondi, prosecute the former director and other people.
